I remember the saying “ignorance is bliss” which evidently is a proverb resembling “What you don't know cannot hurt you.” It figures in a passage from “On a Distant Prospect of Eton College,” by the eighteenth-century English poet Thomas Gray: “Where ignorance is bliss, / 'Tis folly to be wise.'” But I believe there is a very fine line between ignorance and stupidity. Case in point is the Grand Canyon Handstand Challenge this past weekend, where contestants perform a handstand as close to the edge as possible without falling off? Just in case you are unaware (or ignorantly blissful), the Grand Canyon has a depth of 6,093 feet or 1,857 meters so the chances are that you may never know who was the winner (RIP)!
My reason for such an unusual introduction is because on Sunday June 2, 2019, St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Catasauqua, PA held its final service after 167 years of Christian worship and will now become the Almustafa Center for an Islamic congregation. The minister who is also an adjunct professor at the Moravian Seminary and professor of world religion at an Islamic school remarked that the church would remain a holy place. He further added that the building will still be used for prayer and will still be a place of worship! My question is prayer to who and the worship of who?
In his closing remarks, the minister stated that it is special to know that the church building will continue to serve God – even within the confines of a different theology. He continued by saying we’re all connected within this Creator and this place will still be used to praise God and do ministry in God’s name! In my humble opinion, this man should be removed from office and repent. The one true God is the one who sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins on the cross and He bore the sin of all mankind. My Jesus rose on the 3rd day and is alive for evermore and is seated at the right hand of the Father interceding on our behalf.
It is not about religion or believing in multi-faith services because not all religions are equal. It is about a living relationship with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the triune God who is a jealous God and Islam is not Christianity. Christians and Ministers need to stand up and get a back-bone declaring “But we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men” (1 Cor 1:23-25).
As you pray for revival, please pray for these unsaved clergy and religious scholars who are lost in the forest of heresy and do not have a personal relationship with the living Christ. (20 June, 2019).
