Revival Blog 83
Jen and I were blessed in October to take a vacation where we visited Los Angeles, California, Australia and New Zealand over a four-week period. We were encouraged to learn of the impact of those missionaries who went to New Zealand and made a lasting impression with their work with the Maori people. However, what came as a shock in all three countries was the way people spent their Sunday’s which included surfing, watching sport, family outings on the beach, and multitudinous other carnal activities. It made me realize that just having a Sunday services in our cozy churches is no longer sufficient and is not touching the unsaved. It seems that the preaching of the gospel has become limited to literally ‘preaching to the choir’ while the rest of the world has found other worldly activities to fill their day. I am aware that there are those who believe that Hebrews 10:25 regarding forsaking the assembling of ourselves together is taken out of context and I have heard many exegeses regarding the true church, but as 1 Peter 2:5 “you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ”. We are the Church and I believe we need fellowship and if that means meeting in a building on a Sunday, or a home, barn or traditional church building, we desperately need Christian fellowship and communion, with God or, more commonly, with fellow Christians – Koinonia (Gk).
I think our churches and denominations have concentrated more on ‘increase’ rather than ‘impact’ and even with an abundance of technology available to us, we desperately need a Spirit of Revival to come upon our lands where a Godly fear will once again return. We need preachers who will ditch their funny little stories and replace them with anointed preaching that will radically change hearts and lives. Do you recall that old song: “I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back”. Be 100% for Christ.
Part of our vacation included a cruise from Sydney to Auckland and I was impressed that the ship provided an inter-denominational church service on the Sunday and not an inter-faith service. We need to be reminded that we worship a jealous God and that there is only one true God. In my heart I feel this deep cry to the Christian Church to stop compromising and not to embrace the LGBT movement as the new ‘norm’ but to stand up for truth, purity and righteousness. I believe we have watered down the gospel so much that it is almost ineffective and we have replaced it with a Broadway style show rather than true worship of the living Christ. John 4:23 “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks”.
Therefore, be not dismayed or discouraged because we should stand firm and believe Acts 3:20 “that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus”.
